This course covers advanced modeling techniques used for building three-dimensional stylized character. Focus is placed on both software modeling tools and artistic sculpturing talent.
Students build on skills and processes learned in previous Concept Art/Illustration courses to conceive and produce multifaceted Character Designs. In This Art of Pre-Production module Students will assume the role as a concept artist (Character) in a production setting.

In This Art of Pre-Production module Students will assume the role as a concept artist (Creature) in a production setting. Students learn to develop visual ideas for illustrations and carry an idea through the stage of roughs to a comprehensive and finished image, using both digital media. This module guides students through the final stages of creating a portfolio that is geared towards creating illustrations for games and films.

The Capstone Studio Practice is a research-based module that integrates concepts and work from throughout the program. Students are expected to integrate skills, knowledge, and creativity to produce a project that will showcase professional expertise in a chosen career field.
Role of a Concept Artist is to generate visual reference for an object (like weapons, armor and vehicles) or being (like a character or creature) OR Environment that does not yet exist. This includes, but is not limited to film production, animation and video game production. A concept artist may be required for nothing more than preliminary artwork, or may be required to be part of the creative team till the project reaches fruition. Concept artists are an enigma in the art world.

Mr. Rajesh is working in the education, animation and digital design field for the past 16 years, with more than five years of educational experience with film and creative media schools. As a lead lecturer in US institutes, Rajesh has successfully trained students for employment in animation and creative arts industry for companies such as Electronic Arts, Bungie Studios and Gulfstream Aerospace. Some institutions he has lectured in include, Career Education Corporation in Orlando, Florida and Brown College in Minneapolis, USA.

Zaki brings with him more than 18 years of experience in various creative industries, from illustration to animation. Zaki has been a valuable addition to various companies such as Scrawl Studios and Chip & Toons taking up the responsibility of Animation Director in both places. In addition to his illustrious career, Zaki has also been published 5 times – with his latest comic, Badang, being a historical comic based on the Second World War in Singapore. Zaki completed his formal education with MAGES Institute of Excellence, graduating with a Diploma in Entertainment Design.

The classes are really interesting. Our lecturer is the best lecturer I’ve ever had. No one has ever sat down and taught me how to paint like that. The lecturer not only taught us how to texture, he also taught us major skills like lighting and ambience. The hands-on approach at MAGES was a game changer for my art.
