Abertay University, situated in the city centre of Dundee, Scotland was founded in 1888 as the Dundee Technical Institute and later in 1994 became known as University of Abertay Dundee. Abertay University has a GameLab set up to teach students all about game technology and game application development at undergraduate and postgraduate level. It consists of two main teaching areas, an octagonal pod area housing 40 computer stations, and an advanced development areas housing 50 computer stations used for the high-end game and graphics development. In 2015, Abertay University degrees in computer games were listed among the top 25 undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the world by the prestigious Princeton review.
Abertay was the first University in the world to offer a computer games degree and the first in the UK to be recognized as a Centre for Excellence in Computer Games Education. In 1999 Abertay University developed and continues to host ‘Dare to be Digital’ the international competition for computer games students. Students learn about game technology and game application development in the game lab that consists of two main teaching areas, an octagonal pod area and an advanced development areas housing with tens of computer stations used for the high-end game and graphics development.
BA Computer Arts at Abertay University is an internationally-acclaimed course in which student will study a range of subjects including visual literacy, animation, video and visual effects production, audio design, interactive media design and 3D production techniques for computer games and animation. Student will develop artistic skills through the production of visual and audio digital media content for computer games, animation, visual effects and interactive media. Students will work in an interdisciplinary studio environment with industry professionals to develop a portfolio of work in preparation for a career in digital media.

This course is aimed at students who wish to update and enhance their existing programming skills for the development of computer games. Designed and maintained in close association with games companies, the course also will provide the students with access to a range of state-of-the-art facilities at the university. Abertay graduates have gone on to work for leading computer games companies including Realtime Worlds, Sony, Electronic Arts and Rockstar North, or set up their own companies. The students will leave Abertay with confidence and skills to work in one of the most demanding industries in the world and at a distinct advantage over other computing graduates intending a career in the games industry.
