Foundation Certificate Course

The MAGES Institute offers a 9-month Foundation Certificate in Art and Design aimed at equipping learners with a comprehensive understanding of Digital Arts. Students will gain mastery for the fundamentals of Digital Art prior to pursuing diplomas and degrees. Industry-leading educators and mentors facilitate an immersive learning experience through rigorous modules that evaluate assignments, projects, and practical coursework. Graduates of the Foundation Diploma in Art and Technology program acquire valuable skills helping them to identify career paths and proceed to their Diploma program of choice.


The 9-month foundation program is designed for graduates of Higher NITEC as well as students without an O-Level pass. It provides the necessary groundwork for beginners in Digital Arts and Game Development. This course ensures that students are confident in basic principles of art and technology before moving on to a Diploma with MAGES.


Exemption for modules is available if English Proficiency Requirement is met, reducing the duration of the program to 5 months.

DURATION: 9 Months (Full-Time or Part-Time; part-time batches are subject to confirmation) or 5 Months if English Proficiency Requirement is met.

International Students are only offered Full-Time program.

MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION AND ASSESSMENT: Lectures & Practical (Hands-on Application), Project-based Assessment for all modules

SOFTWARES TAUGHT: Art Track –  Photoshop | Technology Track – GameMaker, Python

HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS: Windows Laptop with a Minimum of i7 (13th Gen) Processor or Ryzen 7, 16 GB RAM (32 GB recommended), RTX 2060 or above, 500GB SSD (1TB recommended), Drawing Tablet required for Art Track (Wacom One recommended)

NOTE : A selection of 4 modules in Level 1 and 3 Electives in Level 2 are necessary to constitute a Certification. A Pass in all Modules within the maximum study period is required for Graduation.



In the first term, students will learn the fundamentals of reading, writing, and speaking in an academic setting. Creative Concept Development will be introduced in the second term as students lay the groundwork for a future as problem-solvers. Participants will learn practical applications of creativity and how to use it in a consumer-driven workplace. Students will also start to build their skillset as they learn techniques in composition, drawing, and digital design through modern digital software.

  • Academic Speaking*
  • Creative Concept Development

* Exempted if English Proficiency Requirement is met.

Learn Unity and Unreal Engine


Fundamental aspects of drawing, composition techniques such as one-point and two-point perspectives will be introduced. Students will progress to human anatomy and gain experience in industry standard digital design software.

This term will cover the following modules :

  • Basic Drawing – I
  • Basic Drawing – II
  • Digital Design


Students will build a foundation in essential mathematics for game development and gain experience in understanding design considerations for games. They will also be introduced to basic programming and learn how to “think like a programmer”.

This term will cover the following modules :

  • Mathematics for Games

Zaki brings with him more than 18 years of experience in various creative industries, from illustration to animation. Zaki has been a valuable addition to various companies such as Scrawl Studios and Chip & Toons taking up the responsibility of Animation Director in both places. In addition to his illustrious career, Zaki has also been published 5 times - with his latest comic, Badang, being a historical comic based on the Second World War in Singapore. Zaki completed his formal education with MAGES Institute of Excellence, graduating with a Diploma in Entertainment Design.

Jeffrey is an Indie developer/generalist since 2007, mostly focused on gameplay, AI,UI/UX, Networking, Script Systems, and mobile programming. He has co-founded game studio Touch Dimensions Interactive and shipped notable games including Wizards and Wagons, Autumn Dynasty warlords, Huff and Puff and Totem Star.

Our 1 Year Game Design Diploma Program is designed to equip students with the necessary skills and portfolio to become industry ready game developers. We emphasise core fundamentals like C# programming while also exposing our students to advanced topics like AI, Audio Systems, and Game Systems.

Concept Art Course Term 3 - Portfolio Development and Marketing



The most renowned Concept Artists in today’s entertainment industry are not only highly skilled visual artists but more importantly, creative problem solvers and critical thinkers.


Students from our Diploma in Concept Art Program are cultivated in the core fundamentals of both art and design along with the technical execution needed to bring ideas to reality. Program will cover design thinking and research processes, advanced drawing and painting techniques, industry 3D workflow, as well as effective client presentation abilities. Optimised foundational education through our focused 12-month pipeline will ensure students graduate with a vast array of professional skills and industry ready portfolio.



Students from our 12 Months Diploma in Game Art Program are trained in strong art fundamentals coupled with industry toolsets and workflow knowledge to emerge as professional 3D artists. Guided by Unreal Engine Authorised Instructors and industry professionals.


Program will cover anatomy and drawing fundamentals; 3D modelling and advanced texturing in 3Ds Max, Zbrush, Marmoset Toolbag, and Substance Painter, along with environment set up and lighting in Unreal Engine. This balance of foundational knowledge and technical expertise equips students with the skills needed to excel in the evolving industry of entertainment production.
