Foundation Certificate Course

The MAGES Institute offers a 9-month Foundation Certificate in Art and Design aimed at equipping learners with a comprehensive understanding of Digital Arts. Students will gain mastery for the fundamentals of Digital Art prior to pursuing diplomas and degrees. Industry-leading educators and mentors facilitate an immersive learning experience through rigorous modules that evaluate assignments, projects, and practical coursework. Graduates of the Foundation Diploma in Art and Technology program acquire valuable skills helping them to identify career paths and proceed to their Diploma program of choice.

This program will equip you with the essential skills and knowledge you need to succeed, from multimedia design to project management. Through a hands-on , immersive learning experience, you’ll gain the confidence and expertise to bring your creative vision to life.

DURATION: 9 Months (Full-Time or Part-Time; part-time batches are subject to confirmation)

International Students are only offered Full-Time program.

HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS: Windows Laptop with a Minimum of i7 (13th Gen) Processor or Ryzen 7, 16 GB RAM (32 GB recommended), RTX 2060 or above, 500GB SSD (1TB recommended).

NOTE: A Pass in all Modules within the maximum study period is required for Graduation.

Term two is your chance to become a communication pro! Boost your confidence with presentations, group discussions, and active listening. Explore key topics for powerful communication in both school and work. Learn how to brainstorm, develop ideas, and express your vision across different media.

This term also dives into digital design, teaching you to create stunning visuals using the latest tools.



This term is your launchpad to game design! Through hands-on projects (like building simple games), you’ll learn the basics: game mechanics, storytelling, and creating fun experiences for players using essential tools to boost your creativity.

By the end, you’ll be a tech-savvy game designer, ready to bring your ideas to life!

  • Develop innovative ideas across mediums using brainstorming, critical thinking, and collaborative feedback.
  • Have the foundation understand of Creating Art and Design and Use iterative design and development practices to create a playable game.
  • Demonstrate effective understanding of the Creative Brief, including purpose, design, and implementation.
  • Be able to verbally present, organize good flow of information, discuss, engage audience, and confidently answer queries during presentations.
  • Utilize creative technologies for enhanced problem-solving and innovation in creative projects.
  • Able to be resourceful and methodical in researching information and generating reports.

Rajesh Chakravarthy has worked in digital art and design for the past 18 years (stationed as an educator within various creative media and tech schools for 9 of those years) and is a veteran AR/VR developer and an Unreal Engine Authorised Instructor.  His leadership has led many students to successful careers within prominent companies around the globe. Rajesh’s research and hard work has made great strides in Augmented and Virtual Reality, as he intersects design, technology, and business through his many ventures in prototyping and education.

With over 25 years of working experience, in companies such as ICONIX International and Delcan Corporation in Toronto, Canada. Thomas has played a key role in developing the Automatic Fare Collection System for the Taiwan High Speed Rail in Taipei. His significant experience in the IT industry enriches both his industrial training and his academic teaching. He has teaching experience in subjects like Games Programming at various Singaporean institutions.

Ian is a gameplay and audio programmer specialising in academic teaching and research. He has five years of teaching experience, and his guidance has helped many students find satisfaction and realise their potential. Ian goes beyond the technical skills by intersecting his knowledge and experience spanning multiple related disciplines, including game development, audio production and music. He is also very active in the Singapore Games Association.

Zaki brings with him more than 18 years of experience in various creative industries, from illustration to animation. Zaki has been a valuable addition to various companies such as Scrawl Studios and Chip & Toons taking up the responsibility of Animation Director in both places. In addition to his illustrious career, Zaki has also been published 5 times - with his latest comic, Badang, being a historical comic based on the Second World War in Singapore. Zaki completed his formal education with MAGES Institute of Excellence, graduating with a Diploma in Entertainment Design.

Nanda has a remarkable experience in the IT industry and the education industry specially in the field of 3D Graphic Animation, Game Programming and Game Development & Design. Nanda is a Unity Certified Developer and also an Unreal Engine Authorised Instructor, in addition to having certification from Microsoft and Oracle. Nanda has working experience in United States, India and Singapore. With his excellent communication and interpersonal skills, he proves to be a truly commendable and valuable lecturer for MAGES.
