MAGES Game Art School offers a unique Game Art Diploma that prepares students for a successful career in the game arts and design industry. The program covers all aspects of game development including character modeling, animation, rigging, texturing, lighting, level design, gameplay, and audio. Students will also learn about the history of video games, game design principles, and game art fundamentals.

Throughout the program, students will be exposed to real life projects and assignments such as character design, prop design and environment design that will help them gain valuable hands-on experience in creating games. Upon completion of the program, students will receive an industry recognized diploma and a portfolio containing their best works.

Game Art Institute

MAGES Institute of Excellence offers a 12 month Game Art Diploma Programme. In the Game Art Institute, students will learn about the basics of game art, develop their skills, and work on a game development project to create a simulation of the game production pipeline.

The Game Art Course at the Game Art Institute is designed to teach students basic art fundamentals and principles of game design, with an opportunity to create a next generation character via Zbrush Classes. During the second term, students will learn how to model environments for games and then progress to the third term – focus on game production and learn about methodologies of working in a game studio.

About Game Art Diploma

More information about Game Art Diploma is available as follows – Course outline : First term comprises Game Design Principles, Art Fundamentals, and Fundamentals of Game Art. These three terms aim to build a strong foundation upon which the students can learn, experiment, and start creating their own games after ZBrush Course

They will then be tasked with a hands-off application for using Next-Generation workflows to create Next Generation Game Character Design, Build Environments using 2D & 3D Concept Design Processes and 3D Modelling in Zbrush Class, Digital Sculpting to Compose a Finished Product.

In the final term of the programme at the Game Art Institute, students will focus on creating Game Productions and develop their final Portfolio using polished artworks refined through professional critiques, and be prepared to step into the Digital World.

Illustration Art

Game art illustration is relevant to developing excellent games in Unity. At MAGES Institute, the Illustration Art course presents how to develop good visual art for creating beautiful games using Unity.

In these courses, you’ll discover how to draw characters, environments, and assets that fit well with Unity’s development platforms. We help you develop skills such as digital painting, concept art, and texturing techniques.

We ensure that you understand the essence of visual content that complements the playability of a game, as well as the storytelling aspect of the game.

Being an art-based course emphasizing creativity and proficiency, it enables you to create art assets that complement Unity’s enhanced game engine and graphical appeal and functionality.

The program focuses on developing artistic talent in 3D modeling and texturing, integrating interactive experiences, enabling students to create compelling and believable game environments. Students will gain expertise in designing, creating, and analysing visual components of games in a collaborative setting, often working in simulated studio environments that mirror real-world game development practices, bringing their artistic visions to life.

 

Through hands-on, project-based learning guided by experienced mentors, students build a diverse portfolio that includes character models, environmental assets, and textured game props, demonstrating their proficiency in 3D modeling, game ready assets, interactive environments, and character design.

DURATION: 12 Months (Full-Time) & 17 Months (Part-Time)

This term offers students a comprehensive exploration of game design principle and practice, building fundamental art skills in design sketching, perspective, digital painting, and the ability to draw objects in 3D space. Student will gain proficiency in creating 3D Models using industry-standard software, and get a better understanding of how art values can support the design process within the game art industry.

This term focuses on character and environment design, which is vital for engaging audiences in games and stories. Students will learn 2D and 3D concept designing, modeling, and sculpting to create compelling characters and environments. With a focus on creating memorable designs, they will cover everything from fundamental to realistic texturing, empowering them to bring their imaginative visions to life.

PORTFOLIO

Students will be equipped with skills to handle complex final projects in a live studio setting in this term. INSTRUCTORS

Kingston Chan is a Concept Development Artist, Art Director, and Educator with over two decades of experience in games, movies, animation, and art production design. Kingston commenced his role as an educator in 2005 when he was invited to develop curriculums for game art, conceptual design, and digital painting at top schools in the field, eventually serving as Senior Art Director at FZD School of Design for the past 14 years. Previously, Kingston has worked extensively in Japan as a Game Artist at SEGA Co. and Koei Tecmo. Upon returning to Singapore, he was appointed as Art Lead at several local game companies to set up next gen 3D pipelines. Kingston believes in the importance of learning art fundamentals and design problem solving, especially in our world of everchanging technology. His broad industry expertise combined with a persistent curiosity in new technologies and work processes shows his dedication in advancing our next generation of artists and designers.

Justin is a Master's Degree holder in Game Arts and Design from University of Hertfordshire with 7 years of working experience in the Creative Industry as a CG/3D Artist. He has also worked on a wide repertoire of projects with international renowned brands such as Japan Digital Entertainment (SGames), SAF and other Singapore Government linked companies in making 3D assets. With a passion to teach, Justin aims to inspire future artists to explore and expand the horizons of what is possible.

Damien Soh is a visual artist based in Singapore, specializing in digital illustration. His versatile skill set also extends to freelance work for multinational corporations like Unilever, encompassing roles in visual development and art direction. Having worked as the lead illustrator for the short animation “Pagoda of Peril” for Universal Studios Singapore in 2018, Damien recently made his solo exhibition debut with "The Banquet" at Art Outreach Singapore, hosted at Gilman Barracks.

Banya has worked since 1995 and is active in the education sector since 2005. Banya is extremely skillful and knowledgeable. He knows a lot of shortcuts and techniques from his years of being in this industry. His expertise is in 3D modeling, texturing & Animation: 3DS Max, Maya & Substance Painter, Digital Sculpting: Zbrush & Mudbox, CAD software: AutoCAD, Revit, Digital Painting & post-production: Photoshop, Post Production for Animation: AfterFX, Premier, Traditional 3D Sculpting, Traditional 2D Drawing & Painting.

Rajesh Chakravarthy has worked in digital art and design for the past 18 years (stationed as an educator within various creative media and tech schools for 9 of those years) and is a veteran AR/VR developer and an Unreal Engine Authorised Instructor.  His leadership has led many students to successful careers within prominent companies around the globe. Rajesh’s research and hard work has made great strides in Augmented and Virtual Reality, as he intersects design, technology, and business through his many ventures in prototyping and education.
