About Virtual Reality School

MAGES Institute is a leading Virtual Reality School in Singapore conducting Professional Certificate and Short Courses for both Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality. MAGES’ Virtual Reality Course teaches the basics of Virtual Reality using Unity Engine (with C# Programming) or Unreal Engine (with C++ Programming), and creating an experience to deliver or convey the desired message/emotion and solve a real-world problem. Students are able to differentiate between benefits and shortcomings of available VR platforms, and identify the building blocks of any VR Experience. With premier AR/VR Training at MAGES, students will be able to design their own virtual interactive environment that effectively communicates a scenario or a narrative aspect. Students will also learn to balance the technicalities of the chosen platform such as graphical fidelity, interactivity and user experience using 6 Degrees of Freedom while developing their narrative experience.

Overview Augmented Reality Institute

MAGES Institute is a premier Augmented Reality Institute in Singapore conducting Professional Certification MR Course (called XR Immersive) along with AR Course and VR Classes (6 weeks each). MAGES AR Course covers the basics of Augmented Reality using Unity Engine and C# Programming for scripting, including creating and setting up markers in an immersive environment, and implementing it in a functional AR application designed to solve a real-world problem. Students would utilise technical knowledge such as interface wireframes, markers and placements, and combine them with the principles of design and interaction to create a functioning Augmented Reality application. The Application would also take into account immersion techniques such as sound and appropriate quality visuals, while balancing the technical needs with hardware limitations applicable today. This foundational knowledge of Augmented Reality will allow students to understand the constituents of an AR experience and effectively develop their own AR App.

Through hands-on mentorship with experienced Unity Certified and Unreal Authorized Trainers, learn the core skills and techniques required in developing solutions using immersive technology – all while harnessing the creative potential of Generative AI.

SOFTWARES TAUGHT: Unity | Unity 3D | Unreal Engine | Photoshop | Blender | C# | Oculus | ARCore | Vuforia

HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS: Windows Laptop with a Minimum of i7 (13th Gen) Processor or Ryzen 7, 16 GB RAM (32 GB recommended), RTX 2060 or above, 500GB SSD (1TB recommended). Oculus Quest 2 for VR and Android Phone for AR development are required.

 

NOTE: A Pass in all Modules within the maximum study period is required for Graduation.

12 MONTH PROGRAM

BUILDING BLOCKS

Students will learn to create optimised assets using industry standard digital content creation (DDC) tools and use them in development of enjoyable real time 3D environments. They will also cover basic programming in the context of creating an XR Application using a game engine. The term will cover the following modules:

  • Immersive Media
  • Real-Time 3D Fundamentals
  • Interactive Environments
  • Programming Fundamentals

SKILLS & PROFICIENCY

This term would cover extensive use of game engines for the creation of a marker-less AR experience and a mobile/desktop based VR experience. Students will also develop an XR application, learn to integrate APIs, while keeping modern sensibilities of User Interface and User Experience in mind. The term will cover the following modules:

  • Augmented Reality Design and Development
  • UI/UX for XR
  • Virtual Reality Design and Development
  • XR Development for Enterprises

PROJECT

Students will apply their newly obtained skills, knowledge and creativity to develop and execute an XR application to solve a real-world problem faced by an enterprise.

The term will cover the following modules:

Rajesh Chakravarthy has worked in digital art and design for the past 18 years (stationed as an educator within various creative media and tech schools for 9 of those years) and is a veteran AR/VR developer and an Unreal Engine Authorised Instructor.  His leadership has led many students to successful careers within prominent companies around the globe. Rajesh’s research and hard work has made great strides in Augmented and Virtual Reality, as he intersects design, technology, and business through his many ventures in prototyping and education.

Nanda has a remarkable experience in the IT industry and the education industry specially in the field of 3D Graphic Animation, Game Programming and Game Development & Design. Nanda is a Unity Certified Developer and also an Unreal Engine Authorised Instructor, in addition to having certification from Microsoft and Oracle. Nanda has working experience in United States, India and Singapore. With his excellent communication and interpersonal skills, he proves to be a truly commendable and valuable lecturer for MAGES.

Luther Chan has more than 10 years of experience in the Game Industry. His strength is in Game Development and Emerging Technologies. He is the Founder of Explosive Barrel an independent game development studio that focuses on creating high quality games and we have been doing so for over 10 years. In addition to creating our own games, they also create games for websites and brands. His previous clients include Ubisoft, Coke, Cheetos, E4, NHS and Air France-KLM. Luther graduated with a Bachelor of Computing (Communications and Media), from the National University of Singapore.

With over 25 years of working experience, in companies such as ICONIX International and Delcan Corporation in Toronto, Canada. Thomas has played a key role in developing the Automatic Fare Collection System for the Taiwan High Speed Rail in Taipei. His significant experience in the IT industry enriches both his industrial training and his academic teaching. He has teaching experience in subjects like Games Programming at various Singaporean institutions.

Jeffrey is an Indie developer/generalist since 2007, mostly focused on gameplay, AI,UI/UX, Networking, Script Systems, and mobile programming. He has co-founded game studio Touch Dimensions Interactive and shipped notable games including Wizards and Wagons, Autumn Dynasty warlords, Huff and Puff and Totem Star.

Lecturer

David, an Unreal Engine Authorised Instructor, has about 18 years of experience with companies like Zealot Digital, Digital Perception studios, Ksatria Gameworks etc and currently works for Blackbird Interactive. Some of his work includes the development of tools and components for the proprietary game engine, the development of ZD engine 2.0, game programming, Xbox tech demographics programming. He has also conducted various seminars on 3D Arts, involved in 3D animation for companies like Chevron and immensely contributed in nex-gen API Game Engine Development. David holds a Diploma from IMUS Institute of Science & Technology, from the Philippines.

Zaki brings with him more than 18 years of experience in various creative industries, from illustration to animation. Zaki has been a valuable addition to various companies such as Scrawl Studios and Chip & Toons taking up the responsibility of Animation Director in both places. In addition to his illustrious career, Zaki has also been published 5 times - with his latest comic, Badang, being a historical comic based on the Second World War in Singapore. Zaki completed his formal education with MAGES Institute of Excellence, graduating with a Diploma in Entertainment Design.

We strive to push our students to the best of their abilities, and hence we would advise undivided attention on the Diploma program. Local students are generally permitted to work part-time while studying.

However, international students have restrictions to work part-time due to visa regulations.

Scholarship opportunities are available for full-time programs, catering to both local and international students. Local students have the option to apply for grants such as the SkillsFuture Training Grant, SkillsFuture Credits (SFC), and Post-Secondary Education Account, subject to Terms & Conditions as applicable by respective government bodies.
