PROGRAMME OVERVIEW
Step into the world of Virtual Production with real-time skills built for LED volume studios.
This course is designed for those looking to take on operational roles in virtual production, particularly within the Brain Bar – the technical control center that manages real-time sync, playback, and system workflows during VP shoots.
Participants will learn how to operate and troubleshoot real-time 3D tools used in LED volume environments, gaining essential knowledge in Unreal Engine pipelines, nDisplay, camera sync, lighting control, and live playback.
Through hands-on sessions in a professional virtual production lab, learners will simulate real-time shoot conditions and experience the fast-paced, cross-functional demands of VP production support.
The course is delivered by MAGES Institute, an Unreal Engine Academic Partner and X3D VP studio Partner
DURATION: 39 hours total (Unreal engine + VP Lab Studio)
SCHEDULE: Evening and weekend sessions (Part-Time)

ATTENDANCE: Minimum 100% attendance required for certification
COURSE START DATE: 30-March-2026
SOFTWARE TAUGHT: Unreal Engine 5.x
HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS: Windows/Mac Laptop no older than 2022
AWARD: A Certificate of Completion will only be issued upon successful completion of the assessment. No participation or attendance certificate will be issued if the student does not complete the assessment.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
- Aged 18 and above
- Prior experience in media, 3D, design, broadcast preferred
- Comfortable working with digital systems in high-pressure environments
- Spoken and written English proficiency
- Portfolio and resume required
- Workplace Literacy and Numeracy (WPLN) Level 6 and above
What You Will Learn
- Operate real-time playback systems using Unreal Engine and nDisplay
- Manage lighting, sync, and look-dev during LED shoot environments
- Coordinate technical cues and version playback in response to on-set direction
- Troubleshoot camera sync, lighting shifts, and real-time asset issues
- Collaborate across camera, lighting, and engine teams as part of a Brain Bar unit

Do I need to be an Unreal Engine expert?
No. The course begins with foundational Unreal workflows before moving into real-time sync and LED playback operations.
Is this a creative or technical course?
This is a technical operator course, designed for those supporting the creative team. You’ll manage systems, troubleshoot in real-time, and support live set operations.
Can I use this to enter the VP industry?
Yes. The course is designed to provide practical, portfolio-ready experience and is aligned with job roles like Brain Bar Operator, Real-Time Playback Tech, and VP System Operator.
Can I use PSEA or Skillsfuture?
As this is an IMDA-funded course, SkillsFuture Credit and PSEA cannot be used for payment.
Can I pay by installment?
Yes, installment payment is available. We accept 12-month interest-free installment plans via DBS credit cards.
Is there part time option available?
No, only a full-time, intensive training option is available. The programme is designed with a strong focus on preparing you to transition into a Real-Time 3D Operator or Brain Bar Operator role, with the goal of equipping you with the skills needed to secure employment in the virtual production industry.
